Dado Cutters

Our indexable dado cutter (aka: band notch cutter) is the preferred cutting tool for new or recycled pallet manufacturers. They can be used on machines ranging from shop-built to OEMs for cross-cutting or with-the-grain profiles.  Use our indexable dado cutter to make clearance notches in wooden components for steel, poly, or polyester strapping. Our various carbide-grade notcher inserts allow the head to cut various types of wood:

• Green and kiln-dried virgin lumber
• Knotty pine or frozen lumber
• Wood with some nails (Nailbuster® technology)
• Wood with lots of nails (Nailbuster® NX technology)
Hardened wedge blocks and grade-alloy screws provide for increased strength and durability. The solid body design allows for balanced assemblies, which results in less vibration on your machines for longer bearing and shaft life. Split chipper plates are optional for custom applications.
In comparison to expensive brazed-style dado sets that have to be thrown away or completely resharpened, our indexable dado cutters allow you to easily remove/replace the notcher inserts yourself. This provides you with an easy, low-maintenance solution. And with just a few bolts to loosen, our dado cutter allows for widening or narrowing of the overall notch width in the wood.

Design parameters

All dado cutters can be custom-designed from the number of teeth, diameter, bore size, key-way, locking mechanism and reversible carbide notcher inserts.
  • Diameter: 6″ – 14″
  • Cut Width: 1/2″, 3/4″, 1″, 11/4″, 11/2″, 13/4, 2″
  • Inner diameter: 1 1/2″ – 3 1/2″
  • Multiple tooth configurations to match speed and depth parameters
  • Indexable Carbide Inserts (reversible)
  • Keyed: 1/4″, 3/8″, 1/2″

If a finer cut is required, we can pair our indexable dado cutters with outboard indexable edger saws to produce a very clean edge.

All notching inserts can be sharpened or replaced at our in-house service center. Inserts sent in for service go through an incoming quality check to determine if they can be resharpened. If they have been reground multiple times and become too small or become excessively chipped they will be replaced with new ones.

With the grain Notch

Ideal for clearance notches for band strapping we can adjust the assembly in 1/4" to 1/2" increments depending on your setup and needs for the width and depth of your notch

Cross Grain Notching

Cross Grain notching similar to four way entry for pallet notches.

Edger Saw

Used in certain cutting conditions for improving cut quality in the corner when the aesthetics or tear out are a concern to your customer.

Split or Solid

Split or Solid plate configurations available in 2 wing setups. Also available are 4, 6, 8, 10, 12 wing solid body configurations.
